Summer Feedback
In terms of feedback for my summer work, ideas and shooting, it was very positive. I feel as though I had given myself a good starting point for the year by doing a good deal of research and planning over the summer. The shoots I had done have helped me to visualise where this project will go, even though they are so broad. Hair as a subject was questioned as its often something that is so looked over, and thats why I want to look into it, because to most people hair is just hair, but to me, its something I have a personal connection with and is actually quite sacred. Explaining the idea out loud was also helpful as it made me realise what was more successful in terms of imagery and ideas. Both my tutor and I agreed that I should not choose a specific subject involving hair just yet, and I should focus on a broader study of the significance of hair, to both me and other people. This is definitely something I feel would work, as I need to look very broadly and study hair as a subject first before I narrow down my work and focus on one aspect of hair. After this feedback, I am going to start researching hair as a whole subject, looking into all the different aspects that I am interested in and can photograph, making a mind map of all these possibilities. I will research into each idea, shoot it and then choose from there where to go with my project. This may mean focusing on looking broadly for this first module and then using the next module to narrow in on one or two specific ideas to create a succinct body of work. I am also going to look into Eleanor Farmers Blood Study, Lorna Simpsons work on hair and the cultural significance of hair to help my research and creation of images.
